Bad Bunny Opens up About why he Speaks on Puerto Rico in his Music

By

Puerto Rican rapper and songwriter Bad Bunny has on several occasions spoken not just as a celebrity but an activist and patriotic native of his homeland.

On countless occasions, Bunny didn’t waste time in reflecting on his island native, making him a superhero of his home country.

In a latest New Tork Times podcast, the rapper addressed many issues including why he speaks on Puerto Rico in his music.

In the podcast currently trending online, he disclosed that he speaks on the happenings in the country not because he is a public figure but because he feels them directly.

He added that the things he says are personal reflections and not because he is under pressure to voice them out.

“I’m a normal human being… and I have feelings. That’s how I make my music. Sometimes I want to cry, sometimes I want to dance, and sometimes I want to talk about political things. It’s not because I feel a pressure to say something because I’m a public figure,” says the rapper.

Bad Bunny’s podcast comes at the back of the release of his new studio album. Like a lot of things Bunny does, Debí Tirar Más Fotos is an ode to Puerto Rico and the sounds that have soundtracked the island for generations. Throughout, he seamlessly blends plena and salsa with genres like house and, of course, reggaetón (surprisingly, no trap). The set — with producers such as Tainy, MAG, La Paciencia, Big Jay and Saox in tow — includes collaborations with artists Chuwi, Dei V, Omar Courtz, Pleneros de la Cresta and RaiNao.

In a December 2024 social media post, the singer first announced that he was releasing the LP in a video teaser that featured Puerto Rican film director Jacobo Morales, who reminisced about treasured moments with his friend “Concho.” A press release further elaborated that Bad Bunny “once believed it was essential to live in the moment, but as he grows older, it has become harder to remember certain things. Now, he wishes he had taken more photos and lived more deeply.”
