Ahead of his much anticipated Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, Kendrick Lamar has opened up about his Grammy-winning ‘Not Like Us’ Drake diss track.
Speaking in his recent his livestreamed sit-down with Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis and Ebro Darden, Kendrick reflected on the creation of the chart-topping song which included a trial and error. In the interview, the 22X Grammy-winner appreciated the support the song has received. “I love to see that it gets recognition,” he stated to the crowd.
The Compton rapper addressed his overall approach to his beef with Drake and his historic 2024 run, highlighting his fierceness and the importance of keeping Hip Hop’s essence alive. “My intent from day one was to keep the nature of it as a sport,” he explained. “I think a lot of people [were] putting rap to the back. You didn’t see that grit. You didn’t see that bite anymore.”
Kendrick further described his artistry as one that has always been rooted in the culture’s competitive nature – especially the battle rap world. “I don’t care how motherf**kas look at it as far as, like, a collaborative effort,” he expressed. “I still watch Smack/URL, from Murda Mook to [Loaded] Lux to Tay Roc. My bro, Daylyt. This [has] always been the core definition of who I am.”
On Sunday the 9th of February, the rapper will be taking center stage at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans as a headlining act for the decorated event. SZA will be joining the rapper as a special guest.
