Nigerian pop star Joeboy leaves emPawa after five years to launch his own label as part of a global deal.

Nigerian Afrobeats artist Joeboy has broken away from Mr. Eazi’s emPawa Africa initiative following a five-year collaboration. Joeboy just inked a dual contract with global entertainment conglomerate Warner Music Group.

Joeboy has now joined the ranks of an exclusive group of international celebrities, which also includes Burna Boy and Ckay, as well as Ed Sheeran and Cardi B.

The agreement would also mark the debut of Joeboy’s entertainment project, Young Legend, which aims to highlight the abilities of the younger generation of Africans. The label’s CEO will be Joeboy, while its head of label will be entertainment executive Deola Jaiyesimi.

The Young Legend label and Warner Music Africa will collaborate to distribute the former’s artists’ music throughout the world.

Joeboy recorded two albums under emPawa, Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic in 2021 and Body & Soul in 2023, as well as two EPs, Love & Light in 2019 and Body, Soul & Spirit in 2023. More than two billion people have viewed the hit singles and features that these ventures produced on popular digital streaming services. The unique visualisers for Joeboy’s two 2019 hit singles, “Baby” and “Beginning,” are noteworthy examples of his visual advancements.
