The Nigerian superstar delivers another maximalist video with the help of fellow Nigerian, Fave.
Well over a year after the release of his magnum opus, Timeless, Nigerian global superstar Davido has now dropped a fifth music video for a song off the album. This time it’s “Kante,” the dancehall-inflected tune featuring a vibrant verse and catchy verse from Nigerian singer Fave.
“Kante” emerged as one of the many fan favorites off Timeless. The momentum of the song has remained steady as Davido has performed it throughout his tour stops, bringing Fave along for performances in Lagos’ Tafawa Balewa Square and New York’s Madison Square Garden. The new video is a maximalist affair with a cinematic bend, as has been the trademark of the visuals of preceding music videos off Timeless.
In the centerpiece of the Dammy Twitch-directed video, both singers weave through a thicket of whining and grinding bodies at a house party. Fave shows off her smooth dance moves, while Davido searches for his love interest. While there’s a low lit sleekness to the party scene, sometimes dipping into 2000s music videos and old Nollywood aesthetics, the rest of the video is bursting with color, from the set backgrounds to the outfit choices.
According to Davido, this music video closes out the run for his fifth album. “This isn’t just a release—it marks the end of our “Timeless” era,” the singer wrote in the X and Instagram posts announcing the video. “From every ticket sold to every city we visited, your love and energy turned every moment into history. We’ve faced everything—from sold-out shows and sleepless nights to the highest of highs and lowest of lows and through it all, GOD KEPT US STANDING!”
Ever the prolific pop superstar, the closing of the chapter means “New chapters, new music, new milestones await and I can’t wait to step into them with you.”
