Emmy Awards nominated R&B singer Usher’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the forthcoming 76th edition of the prestigious Awards ceremony.
This year’s edition of the Emmys will be held on Sunday the 15th of September 2024 and be broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
The nomination marks a milestone in Usher’s long-standing career as it is his first-ever Emmy nod.
The nomination is a testament to Usher’s performance ‘s global impact and reach, placing it above the top five live broadcasts of the year. The Halftime Show is up against major live events including the 76th Annual Tony Awards, 66th Grammy Awards, The Oscars, and Total Roast Of All Time: Tom Brady.
The show earned two additional highly-profiled nominations including Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special and Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork For A Special. The two additional nominations highlight the high production values and technical excellence of the performance even though they don’t nominate the ‘Confessions’ hitmaker directly.
At the Superbowl Halftime Show which took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on the 11th of February, Usher alongside Alicia Keys, Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R., will.i.am, Lil Jon, and Ludacris gave a spectacular and magnificent performance. It was the most-watched Superbowl Halftime Show ever with 129.3 million viewers tuning in according to NFL.
Reflecting on the significance of the performance which has earned him his first-ever Emmy nominations, he said ” I always intended for this show to be a celebration of my 30-year career. The energy from the crew, the fans in the stadium, and the guest performers made this a milestone event for me. I’m thrilled that everyone enjoyed it, and I aimed to bring people together through music and performance.”
Recognizing his long-standing career and huge contribution to the music industry over the past decade, the singer was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s BET. Record producer and sound engineer Babyface presented the award to the singer. Childish Gambino, Coco Jones, Victoria Monet, etc paid homage to the Lifetime Achievement Award-winner with an energetic performance.
