Chike Pays Homage to His Heritage in “Son Of Chike” Album 

Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter, Chike has unveiled his third full-length studio album, “Son Of Chike’.

Released on Friday, 19th July 2024, the album houses 12 well-crafted. This also follows his sophomore album “The Brother’s Keeper.” Before the release, “Man Not God,” “Egwu” featuring the late Mohbad and “Ego Oyibo” were earlier released as lead singles.

On the 17th of July, the singer held a party in honour of the project in the UK, London. In a statement on his X platform, he proclaimed himself ‘Osebuka’, a proud son of his father.

According to him, the new album symbolizes and celebrates his heritage and identity. He wrote;

“I am Osebuka, the son of my father, and this album symbolizes and celebrates my heritage and identity as a #SonOfChike and my new musical offspring joining the ranks of those that came before.”

“Son Of Chike” is carved out of artistry and creativity as it features Olamide, Mohbad, Ladipoe, Qing Madi & Amaeya. It opens a new artistic dimensional and revolutionized chapter in the singer’s career, showcasing his lyrical prowess and versatility. While maintaining his Afrobeats composure and unique style, he blends sweet RnB with ballads, and Afropop cuts all steeped in rich Igbo heritage.

The album is produced by his longtime collaborator DeeYasso, Chike takes listeners on different journeys, returning to his roots and paying homage to his rich Igbo heritage. With thought-provoking storytelling compositions and melodies, in ‘Lifetime’, the singer drives listeners on an affectionate journey, touching on the complexities of romantic relationships.

While “Apple” resonates with listeners, exploring themes of romance and portraying love as an essential part of life, “Ego Oyibo” reflects on the significance and beauty of cultural pride and personal connection. “Mma” (Beauty) celebrates the singer’s heritage and in ‘Someone’, offering empowerment and motivation. Chike gives an introspective meaning of pain related to unfulfilled promises.
