Following a promise made to Gov. Obaseki, Governor of Edo State hometown four years ago, Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Rema is returning home with a star-studded concert slated for this year.
The forthcoming concert was announced through a trailer shared on the singer’s social media platform on the 26th of July.
In September 2020, Rema in a post said Gov. Obaseki was the only person who could bring him back to his hometown for a concert after allowing him to perform at his political victory party in 2016 as an upcoming artist.
“Gov.Obaseki, Governor of Edo state. Your victory party was the last place I performed as an upcoming artist After you won the election 4 years ago. This is 4 years later, you won the election again and I’m a star now. You’re the only one that can call me back HOME,” he tweeted.
In the trailer, hinting at the event, a man walks out of a dark room, straight to his car, and speeds off. The ‘HEIS’ album title was displayed in the darkly shot trailer.
Scheduled to come off on the 30th of August 2024, the ‘Calm Down’ hitmaker will be marking his return with the concert at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin State.
Sharing the snippet, the Mavin Records act wrote a caption “Coming Home. Ticket link in bio”
The Edo State Governor also shared the trailer on X and captioned it “ Authentic to the core, I am extremely proud of our very own Benin Boy as he has captured global audiences and taken Edo to the world. @heisrema, we can’t wait to welcome you home. We dey for you.”
