Released on the 10th of August 1979, Michael Jackson dropped the album as his first-ever solo project after parting ways with the international record label Motown. It is the late icon’s fifth studio album released via Epic Records and produced by Quincy Jones, a record producer he met while working on the 1978 film, The Wiz.
According to critics and music experts, he blended disco with pop, funk, broadway ballads, soft rock and R&B for the musical arrangements and compositions of the songs on the 45-year-old project. He explores lyrical themes of escapism, liberation, loneliness, heroism and romance.
“Off The Wall” songs are carved out of artistry, creativity and diversity as they feature songwriting contributions from top-notch and Award-winning musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Paul McCarthy, Rod Temperton, Tom Bahler and David Foster. It has sold 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. On the 2nd of February 2021, it was certified 9x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the US.
