American rapper and G Unit boss 50 Cent has won the long-standing 1 billion dollar “Power” lawsuit against ex-drug lord Cory Ghost Holland.
The legal battle began in 2021 when Cory Holland filed a lawsuit against 50 Cent, Courtney Kemp, Starz, and Lionsgate, demanding 1 billion dollars in damages.
In the suit, Holland accused 50 of stealing his life story to create his hit series “Power”. He further alleged that the “Ghost” character Omari Hardwick played mirrored his personal life experiences. Among other things, he also claimed 50 and the creators of the series used his life for profit without his permission.
However, after three years of the long-standing legal battle, the Court has ruled in favour of the “Many Men” hitmaker, dismissing all the allegations by the ex-drug kingpin.
Cory “Ghost” Holland had initiated a billion-dollar lawsuit against 50 Cent, Courtney Kemp, Starz, and Lionsgate in 2021. Holland alleged that the character “Ghost” in the series Power unlawfully reflected his life without his permission.
In a 2007 CD dubbed “Blasphemy”, Holland claims he had earlier detailed his life and sent it to the father of the series’ co-creator’s father Kemp Courtney, pleading with him to help him exit the drug trade legitimately. Holland also accused 50 and his co-creators of monetizing his story for profit without his consent.
Giving the final ruling in the case, Judge Analisa Torres sided with 50 and dismissed the claims after the rapper denied all the allegations leveled against him. The judge in the first case ruled in favour of 50, saying the “Ghost” character in the series didn’t refer to Holland directly for his to claim defamation damages. Despite familiarities in the life of Holland and the series, the Court found them coincidences.
