American rapper and G Unit boss 50 Cent has shared his thoughts on the selection of Kendrick Lamar as the headlining artist for the forthcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show.
On September 8, the league partnered with Apple Music and JAY-Z‘s Roc Nation to announce that Kendrick Lamar has been confirmed to headline the Halftime Show at Super Bowl LIX scheduled to take place at Caesars Superdome on the 9th of February 2025.
Hip-hop enthusiasts and mainstream rappers including Birdman, Nicki Minaj etc had earlier shared their frustrations, accusing Jay Z of sidelining Lil Wayne. They believe Weezy deserved to headline the event.
But speaking on The Talk, the ‘Many Men’ hitmaker disagreed with his fellow hip hop acts, saying Lamar deserved the selection as a solo artist.
“I mean, it was a choice. I think Kendrick deserves [it]. As a solo artist right now, he’s the guy” he said.
The G Unit boss also shared his thoughts on the ongoing beef between Drake and Lamar, arguing that it’s good for the “culture”.
“Both Drake and Kendrick produced quality music faster because they had to compete with each other,” 50 Cent said. “That competitive nature made them go work and have responses. Hip Hop is still — it’s not just a genre where you can just make a song and sit back. You have to make a song and be ready to make a song again right away with other artists.” he said.
