In a blend of soulful melodies and cross-cultural collaboration, rising singer-songwriter UMI has joined hands with V from the global K-pop sensation BTS for her new track, “wherever u r.” This gentle, emotive song explores the theme of maintaining closeness across distances, resonating with those who love across different time zones, states, and spaces.

UMI shares her thoughts on the track, expressing its broader message: “It’s a dedication to all people with loved ones in different time zones, states, and places. It’s a reminder that love is a frequency that can be felt no matter the distance. So, allow yourself to send love. It is always felt—in that random urge to text someone, call them, or smile.”

Talking To The Wind

The collaboration with V arose spontaneously, as UMI recounts. “We recently connected when he shared my song on Instagram, and very organically, we started chatting about music and life. Eventually, we decided to create a song together,” she explains. The song’s development coincided with V’s impending military service, adding a deeper layer of meaning to their work.

This partnership follows UMI’s recent track “why don’t we go” and comes ahead of her upcoming EP, “talking to the wind,” set to release on Jan. 19. The upcoming project is poised to showcase UMI in a confident and introspective light, navigating themes of love, life, and the comfort of feeling lost.

The EP “talking to the wind” will feature four tracks, including “why don’t we go” and “happy im.” The latter, co-written with V-Ron, debuted last August as the first taste of the new EP. While it hasn’t been confirmed if “wherever u r” will join the EP’s tracklist, its release is highly anticipated by fans of both artists.

“talking to the wind” marks UMI’s next significant step after her 2022 debut album, “Forest in the City,” released on Keep Cool/RCA Records.
