Nigerian Afrobeats songstress and Marvin Records after making history earlier on Digital and Streaming Platform (DSP) Spotify has again set a record with her Sophomore ‘The Year I Turned 21’ studio album.
Ayra Starr had earlier surpassed South African singer and Grammy- award winner Tyla to become African act with most monthly listeners on Spotify.
In a new development after the historic feat on Spotify, her album has garnered 375 million streams in a day across Streaming platforms.
Released on the 31st of May 2024, the 15- tracks packaged project features some of Nigerias finest Afrobeats superstars, YBNL and EMPIRE act Asake, Seyi Vibez etc- Single ‘Commas’ had earlier been released, topped charts and dominated playlists before the official album release.
Ayra Starr merges Amapiano, Pop, R&B and Afrobeats in her new project, displaying and exhibiting her artistic and creative prowess and capabilities . She symbolizes and represents versatility, creativity, artistry and uniqueness in the newly released project.
The songstress takes her fans, supporters and music lovers through a journey of self- confidence, introspection, quest for riches, addressing mental wellbeing with the records on the project.
At age 21, Ayra Starr had already completed college, and signed a record label deal with one of Africa’s music powerhouses Mavin Records founded and owned by legendary and iconic music producer and singer Don Jazzy. After signing into the label, she released her debut project ’19 and Dangerous ‘, amassing huge streams, topping charts and dominating playlists.
After making waves with her debut album, she gained much recognition, attention and momentum continentally and globally with her monster hit song ‘Rush’- The official music video of ‘Rush’ currently has 350 million views on YouTube.
