American rapper Big Sean has worked with Eminem a couple of times but working with him on ‘The Death Of Slim Shady’ was extra special and iconic for Don.
Big Sean has described working with Eminem on the latter’s 12th full-length studio album as “A full circle moment”. Growing up in Detroit, Em has long been a musical idol to Don.
Speaking in an interview with Billboard at this year’s MTV Music Video Awards, Big Sean reflected on his collaboration with the ‘Not Afraid’ rapper for ‘Tobey’ on ‘The Death Of Slim Shady’.
“I’m happy to be a part of that album as well. For sure, for sure. [The Slim Shady LP] was the first album I bought from Costco with my birthday money,” he explained. “That was way back. To be on The Death of Slim Shady was a full-circle moment,” he said with all joy.
‘Tobey’ which was released as a lead single before the official release of the full album was an all-Detroit affair as Em featured Big Sean and fast-rising artist Babytron. The single ended up peaking at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. It marked the fourth Big Sean x Eminem team-up, following in the footsteps of “Detroit Vs. Everybody,” “No Favors” and Detroit 2‘s “Friday Night Cypher.”
Released in July, the album is Eminem’s first full project since his 2020 ‘Music To Be Murdered’ album. It featured the rapper’s daughter Hailie Mather, Big Sean, Babytron, Skylar Grey, etc.
