After surpassing 150 million streams across Digital and Streaming Platforms in less than a month after its official release, Legacy Line Entertainment act King Promise’s ‘True To Self’ album has made another history.
In another historic and unprecedented feat, the 3rd studio album of the singer which features Gabzy, Sarkodie, OliveTheBoy, Lasmid etc has been credited Best Album so far in 2024 by Billboard.
‘True To Self’ surpassed Ayra Starr’s ‘The Year I Turned 21’, Rugger, BNXN, Victony’s ‘Stubborn’, Young Jonn and Tems’ ‘Born In The Wild’. King Promise’s ‘Continental’ featuring Nigerian street pop star Shallipopi also made it to Billboard’s New Afrobeats Fresh Picks list.
An article by Billboard described 2024 as one of the best years for full-length studio albums from some of the best emerging and established talents in African music.
“In a month brimming with great albums from high-profile talents — Ayra Starr, Tems and Victony among them — King Promise may have delivered the best of all of them. The album’s two big prior singles, “Terminator” and “Paris,” previously appeared in this column, but “Continental,” with its assist from one of the of-the-moment street talents in Shallipopi, sits alongside them as one of the best songs of the past 18 months, combining Promise’s natural melodic feel with his memorable hooks to land a breezy summer hit.” Part of the article read.
