Otto Addo, the head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, is passionate about football and has a deep appreciation for the continent’s music and creative arts.
In a recent interview, Addo listed his favourite African musicians, sparking a lively discussion on social media platforms.
Speaking on 3Sports, as monitored by Revolve Muzic, the coach revealed that dancehall superstar and Shatta Movement boss Shatta Wale tops his list. Following closely are rapper Kwesi Arthur, BET Best International Flow-winning act Sarkodie, and Black Sherif.
Addo didn’t stop at Ghanaian artists; he also mentioned his favourite Nigerian musicians, highlighting Empawa Africa CEO Mr. Eazi and BNXN Buju.
Addo, who recently led the Black Stars to a 4-3 victory against the Central African Republic, shared his admiration for Shatta Wale’s use of the Ga language, even though he doesn’t speak it himself. He also praised King Sark as a “great lyricist.”
When asked if he is a music enthusiast, Addo responded:
“I love to listen to music. I especially enjoy hearing Ga, so I love Shatta Wale, particularly when he speaks in Ga. Kwesi Arthur, Sarkodie with their great lyrics, and Black Sherif are also favourites.”
He added, “Mr Eazi, I love him too. There are so many good artists, from Nigeria, BNXN (Buju). There are just so many artists that I love.”
