The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Charter House, Theresa Ayoade, has disclosed the institution’s commitment and vision to establish a Hall of Fame for the Ghanaian music industry.
Ms Theresa reaffirmed Charter House’s commitment during the 25th Anniversary Industry mixer held at the Palm Convention in Accra on the 13th of July 2024.
According to her, the initiative which was first envisioned during the inception of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards scheme, 25 years ago by archiving the Industry’s history and recognizing its legends aims to celebrate and preserve Ghana’s rich musical heritage.
“We were inspired to set up this initiative when we started the Ghana Music Awards journey. We realized that we would have in our possession a lot of music industry data so we started asking ourselves what we do with all this data.”
“We cannot just leave it on our shelves, our offices, just for our consumption. There should be a way to make it available to the public for researchers, musicologists, students and even tourists to experience our music culture,” she said.
For the initiative to be implemented successfully, Charter House is actively collecting data, exhibits, relics, and memorabilia related to Ghana’s music industry, including notable personalities, significant events, and historical activities as disclosed by the CEO.
During her speech, she also invited stakeholders of the industry and individuals with items of relevance to contribute to the project, fostering a collaborative effort to preserve the country’s heritage. For the success of the “Hall Of Fame” vision, Theresa Ayoade disclosed that Charter House will be collaborating with expert curators, UNESCO and the National Museum.
“We are also collaborating with the National Museum and we have had very fruitful meetings with them. They are ready to donate a space to the project. So we have already had a look at the space and it’s an awesome space,” Theresa stated.
She continued, “We would need to do some renovations, setting ups and all of that, so there needs to be a round of fundraising to be able to put all of that together and this is why we are looking for collaborators from far and wide and that is why we approached UNESCO and other such organisations that are interested in cultural and heritage preservation.”
