George Britton Advocates a Major Label Deal for Sarkodie

Ghanaian music executive and CEO of Revolve Muzic, George Britton has opined that Ghana’s rap luminary Sarkodie would do exponentially great if he had a major record label backing.

He acknowledges Sarkodie’s independence journey and growth, a known story from the streets of Tema, Ghana to engineering into the best rapper on the continent. Mr.Britton however believes it is time the “Rap King” considers signing a deal with a record label.

According to George Britton, the rapper signing a major label deal will open huge opportunities for him and also benefit the country’s music industry.

The music executive’s advocacy comes after Sarkodie opened up about his reason for being an independent artist in the 2024 Hennessy Cypher Africa.

In the cypher which featured top rappers such as Kaligraph Jones, Ladipoe, Didi B, Maglera Doe, etc, the Sark Nation boss proving his lyrical prowess talked about how labels exploit artists. According to him, some of his fellow artists are caged following deals they signed.

Advocating for major label support for the rapper in an interview on Class FM, Mr George said ” I wish Sarkodie had a major label backing him”

“Yes, Sarkodie is a big artist. Yes, he’s gone out there and won BETs and all these things,” Britton duly recognised, regretting, also, however: “But is his name a household name like Burna Boy’s?”

“Walk on the streets of London, four out of every five people know Burna Boy. I wish our Ghanaian talents were like that,” he bemoaned.

The Revolve Muzic CEO who has lived in the UK and witnessed how Nigerian artists are known by many, dreams of introducing himself to strangers someday as a Ghanaian and having them respond with the names of their favourite Ghanaian musicians.

George strongly believes Ghanaian artists will not get the huge international recognition they need if they don’t open their doors to record labels. He also believes that the country’s industry will struggle to compete in the international market without major label support.

In conclusion, he appealed ” I want our people to step out of their comfort zones and say, ‘Hey, listen, let’s have conservation. What will you do for me if I sign on?’”
