Young Money member and iconic rapper Lil Wayne has finally broken his silence on the controversial Super Bowl Halftime snub.
This comes days after Roc Nation boss Jay Z picked Kendrick Lamar to headline the forthcoming and much-anticipated concert scheduled to take place at Wayne’s New Orleans hometown in 2025.
On Friday the 13th of September, the ‘Lollipop’ hitmaker through an Instagram post in a serious-sounding explained that the controversial Super Bowl Halftime snub broke him, expressing gratitude to his colleagues who have spoken up for him.
“First of all, I want to say forgive me for the delay. I had to get strength enough to do this without breaking,” said a sombre clearly dispirited Wayne. “I’mma say thank you to every voice, every opinion, all the care, all love and support out there. Your words turned into arms and held me up when I tried to fall back,” he said.
The rapper added “That hurt. It hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a whole lot,” he said haltingly. “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. And for automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that. But I thought that was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt. It hurt a whole lot.”
Showing gratitude to his fellow artists who have spoken up after the news of him getting snubbed broke out, the New Orleans rap icon said “But y’all are f–king amazing. It made me feel like s–t not getting this opportunity and when I felt like s–t, you guys reminded me that I ain’t s–t without y’all… and that’s an amazing reality,”
Meanwhile, mainstream rappers including Birdman, Nicki Minaj, etc have expressed frustrations and displeasure with Lamar getting picked over Wayne to headline the 2025 event. In a series of posts on X, Nicki accused Jay Z of sidelining Weezy for his “ego” and the hate he has for herself and Birdman.
