Barbados singer and songwriter Rihanna has shared her thoughts on the selection of Kendrick Lamar to headline Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2025.
According to the ‘Man Down’ hitmaker, the rap luminary deserves the gig.
Earlier in September, the hip-hop community got divided with mixed feelings and opinions after Jay Z’s Roc Nation announced Kendrick as the headlining act for next year’s Super Bowl show.
Scheduled to come off on the 9th of February 2025, the forthcoming and much-anticipated event will be held at Caesars Superdome in Louisiana, New Orleans.
Speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna said the selection of Kendrick Lamar for the gig is “meant to be”.
Eulogizing the rapper, she said she can’t wait to watch him perform.
“It’s meant to be… he’s Kendrick Lamar. He deserves it; I can’t wait to watch it. Kendrick, thank you.” , said the Barbadian superstar.
Meanwhile, next year’s edition of the highly-profiled ceremony will be the sixth year that the show will be programmed by Roc Nation, which is executive producing the show alongside Jesse Collins, produced by DPS and directed by Hamish Hamilton. Roc Nation partnered with the NFL in 2019 in a deal that saw the JAY-Z-led company take over entertainment programming and social justice initiatives on behalf of the league. That ultimately included Roc’s oversight of the Halftime Show, one of the highest-profile stages in world entertainment, beginning with the 2020 edition.
Many rappers including Birdman, Nicki Minaj, etc have expressed frustrations and displeasure with Lamar getting picked over Young Money member and New Orleans rap icon Lil Wayne. They have slammed organizers of the Halftime Show and Jay Z for sidelining Weezy.
