J. Cole believes Kendrick Lamar’s Diss is “conflicted” and “spiritually unpleasant”

The knowledge that his regret for making fun of Kendrick Lamar may now be put to rest allows J. Cole to sleep peacefully. In response to Kendrick Lamar’s featured verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s song “Like That,” the rapper dropped a diss track called “7 Minute Drill.” Admitting, “That’s the lamest shit I ever did in my fucking life,” the rapper led the audience in a contemplative meditation during his headline performance at his own Dreamville festival this past weekend.

The hesitation in “7 Minute Drill” mirrored Cole’s actual problem in reacting to Lamar’s line, which was mostly directed at Drake rather than him. “I’m aware of my feelings for my peers. I mean, these two niggas whom I’ve had the honor to play alongside in this game, how can I not pursue their greatness? I was conflicted because I had no feelings. However, the world is eager to see blood.

Drake hasn’t offered a significant response to the current drama yet. The rapper never showed up on stage at Dreamville, despite rumors that he would make an unexpected cameo. Drake and Cole released a groundbreaking collaboration in addition to going on a tour together last year.

“In the middle of all of that, while I’m trying to find a little angle and minimize this nigga’s greatness and his fucking catalogue, I want to say this: How many people believe that Kendrick Lamar is one of the best motherfuckers to have ever picked up a microphone?”

Although the crowd exploded in applause, Cole is already facing backlash online for being perceived as “soft” and giving in to pressure.
