Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, marking the end of their two-year marriage. The 55-year-old singer and actress filed the paperwork on Tuesday, August 20, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, listing April 26, 2024, as the date of separation.
This news comes as a surprise to many, as the couple had rekindled their relationship with much fanfare just a few years ago.
Lopez filed for divorce on her own, without the assistance of a lawyer, and reports suggest that there is no prenuptial agreement in place. A source close to the situation revealed, “Jennifer did everything she could to make the marriage work, and this has been incredibly hard for her. Her children remain her top priority.”
The couple’s relationship has been one of Hollywood’s most talked-about romances. After initially calling off their engagement in 2004, Lopez and Affleck reunited in 2021, much to the delight of their fans. They married in a low-key Las Vegas ceremony on July 16, 2022, followed by a more elaborate celebration in Georgia a month later.
However, signs of trouble began to emerge earlier this year. Rumours of a rift surfaced in May when Lopez and Affleck spent significant time apart. Lopez was busy with her movie “Atlas” and her upcoming tour, while Affleck stayed in Los Angeles for his film “The Accountant 2.” Sources close to the couple indicated that their differing personalities and approaches to public life were causing strain.
As the summer progressed, the distance between them grew more apparent. Lopez spent time in the Hamptons while Affleck remained on the West Coast. In June, the couple put their Beverly Hills home on the market, and Affleck later purchased a new home in Los Angeles in July.
Now, with the divorce filing, it seems that the once-celebrated reunion of “Bennifer” has come to a definitive close. Both Lopez and Affleck are moving on separately, focusing on their families and careers as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.
