Ghanaian Highlife band Santrofi after holding thrilling and entertaining shows across Japan have successfully wrapped up their 14-city tour in a grand style.
The band, after performing at popular venues across major cities in Japan, brought their tour to an end in Yokohama. Their shows were a testament to the global influence and reach of Ghana’s heritage genre, Highlife.
On the 5th of April 2024, in a post on their official Instagram page, the band, which consists of eight talented and multifaceted musicians and instrumentalists, announced their tour. They expressed excitement over it.
They began the tour on the 26th of June 2024 in cities such as Fukuoka and made stops in Oita, Kitakyushu, Kurashiki, Kobe, Kanazawa, Nagoya, Tokyo, Matsudu, Fuji, Hachioji, Hashiwa and wrapped up with a stellar performance in Yokohama on the 16th of July. The band thrilled their Asian fans and music lovers with their nostalgic highlife songs, testifying to the genre’s global appeal.
During their performance on the tour, Santrofi through their music preached the need for the unification of the world regardless of its people’s race, religion, financial status and political views. In a post-tour statement, they thanked their fans and Min-On Concert for their immense support.
Since their entry into the music industry, the band consisting of Bernard Gyamfi, Nobert Wonkyi Arthur, Dominic Quarchie, Prince Larbi, Robert Koomson, Emmanuel Boakye Agyemang, Victor Nii Amoo and Emmanuel Kwadwo Ofori as young musicians not only paid homage to Ghana’s heritage genre, Highlife but have also blended it with modern rhythms such as the polyrhythmic beats and melodies of Afrobeats and sold it out to a wider global audience. Even before the release of their 2020 debut album ‘Alewa’ which showcased their artistry and creativity, they had treated listeners with quality and nostalgic Highlife sounds.
Proving their worth, the band have toured the world and made history with some of the genre’s legends and pioneers including Pat Thomas, Ebo Taylor, Osibisa, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, George Darko, etc. Before their debut album, they had stormed Europe on their 2019 summer festival tour including Sines in Portugal, WOMAD in the UK, Roskilde and WOMEX in Tampere.
