Sony Music Rocks Out $1.27B for Queen’s Catalogue

Music has been a serious business and an expensive venture for ages and the current transaction between international record label Sony Music and multiple Award-winning Rock Band Queen is enough proof.

Sony Music is reportedly acquiring Queen’s music catalogue for $1.27 billion. The deal is expected to be closed and finalized in the coming weeks according to reports reaching Revolve Muzic.

Rights to Queen’s popular and chart-topping songs ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘We Will Rock You ‘, ‘We Are Champions’, and ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ amongst others are included in the acquisition.

Revenue for live performances is not included in the acquisition as it will be retained by the Band’s Founding Members Brian May, Roger Taylor and the Freddie Mercury Estate who still go on active tours globally.

Queen is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential Rock Bands in the genre’s history. It has made history and set unprecedented records including selling over $300 million full-length studio albums. It was formed in the United Kingdom, London in 1970.
