Scheduled to be released via SJ Entertainment, the full project will drop on the 30th of August 2024. ‘Monsters In The Closet’ and ‘Black Balloons ‘ had earlier been released as lead singles.

Syleena samples her late father Syl Johnson’s record ‘Black Balloons’ for her own ‘Black Balloons’ song. The song holds a special significance for the singer because the forthcoming album is dedicated to her late father.

In the song, ‘Monsters In The Closet’, she addresses the global mental health crisis. Speaking to Rated R&B on the inspiration behind the record, she said “I felt like it was time for ‘Monsters in the Closet’ because we are suffering a mental health crisis in this world right before our eyes.” She emphasized the responsibility of artists to engage in activism through their work. “As creatives and artists/entertainers, we can no longer be excused from activism through our art. We have to be bold with our lyrics to help promote healing,”

Dedicating the ‘Legacy’ album to Syl Johnson is a testament to the themes of family, heritage, and personal growth she explores in her music. In her album ‘Woman’, she placed the spotlight on the emotional and spiritual experiences of women. In an interview with Rated R &B, she disclosed that she wanted to create a project that focuses on women only.
