American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift has now tied Beyonce as the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) All-time winner.
This comes after Swift won seven awards at this year’s VMAs held at UBS Arena outside of New York on Wednesday, the 11th of September 2024.
Swift’s historic wins at the UBS Arena last night brought her career VMAs total to an even 30. Her competitor, Beyonce, has won 26 awards on her own, two as part of The Carters and two as part of Destiny’s Child in the show’s history.
Taylor Swift was the most nominated artist with 12 nominations followed by her ‘Fortnight’ collaborator Post Malone with 11 nominations. Post was the second most-awarded nominee after Swift, with 5 awards.
Fortnight” won video of the year. It’s the third year in a row – and the fifth year overall – that Swift has won in that category. She previously won for “Bad Blood” (2015), “You Need to Calm Down” (2019), “All Too Well: The Short Film” (2022) and “Anti-Hero” (2023). This extends Swift’s record for most wins in the category and also makes her the first person to win three years running.
Swift won Best Direction for directing ‘Fortnight’. She has won in that category in four of the last five years for her self-directed videos. Previously, in the Best Direction category, she won for “The Man,” “All Too Well: The Short Film” and “Anti-Hero.”
Swift also won Artist Of The Year twice in a row, becoming the first ever artist to win twice in the 2017 introduced category.
Fortnight” won best collaboration. It’s Swift’s third win in that category, following “Bad Blood” (featuring Kendrick Lamar) and “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” with Zayn. And she won best pop for the third time, which puts her in a tie with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake for the most wins in the category. (JT’s count includes two wins with *NSYNC.)
