In the early hours on Monday, Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, won her fourth BET Awards at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Tems received double nominations for the prestigious 2024 BET Awards which were; The ‘video director of the year’ and ‘Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award’ for her song ‘Me & U’.
Though she was nominated into two categories, she got awarded for the category of the ‘Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award’, which had other top acts like Shirley Caeser, Kirk Franklin, Halle Bailey, Cece Winans, Erica Campbell, and Maverick City Music. This is Tems’ 4th BET award.
Also winning for the African continent is South African star Tyla who won the Best New Artist and Best International Act awards earlier in the night.
The BET Awards, established in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, is an American award show that recognises and celebrates the achievements of Black entertainers and other underrepresented groups in music, film, sports and philanthropy.
