The Recording Academy Announces Its Class Of 2024 Members

The Recording Academy, the organization behind the world’s most decorated and highly profiled awards scheme Grammys has announced its Class Of 2024 honorable members.

The news of the announcements of the members went viral on various social media platforms on Thursday 27th June 2024. This comes weeks after the Academy announced its global expansion efforts in Africa and the Middle East.

The new members include Nigerian record producer and singer Maleek Berry, Ghanaian television personality C Real, intellectual writer and poet Titilope Sonuga, Jamaican Reggae artist Aleighcia Scott, Los Angeles-based A&R and marketer Justin Miller, Nigerian-British singer Shae Universe, New York-based music journalist Sowmya Krishnamurthy, record producer and sound engineer Dami, etc.

The Recording Academy is an American-learned academy of musicians, producers, recording engineers, and other musical professionals. It is widely known for its Grammy Awards which recognize achievements in the music industry of songs and music which are popular worldwide.

Voting Members are performers, songwriters, producers, engineers, instrumentalists, and other creators currently working in the recording industry. Voting Members determine GRAMMY winners each year.

Meanwhile, the Recording Academy had earlier announced its global expansion efforts in Africa and the Middle East. The Academy is working with the Ministries of Culture in Kenya, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and Nigeria, the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), and the Ministry of Sports, Arts, and Culture in South Africa. Additionally, MOUs have been signed with Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Through these collaborations, and in alignment with its mission, the Academy looks to explore several key initiatives, including:

Championing music creators at all levels, providing them with a platform and advocacy, and advocating for strong intellectual property (IP) legislation and protections for music creators, Fueling the music economy by collaborating with partners to develop and strengthen the creative economy in Africa and the Middle East, etc.
