Ghanaian afro-rock musician Wiyaala launched an eleven-week music release campaign on May 31, 2024, up until August 9, 2024, where she will release a new single every Friday.
“ODA PAPA” to wit ‘good love’, is her first Hi-life recording and the sixth song amognst the eleven songs to be released. It is a love song which she sang in the Twi language, with additional languages in English, Sissali, and Waale, showcasing her diversity and how abreast she is in the Ghanaian languages.
Some say northern artists should sing in Twi to gain more attention in Ghana’s southern regions. Others say we should the use our northern languages to preserve our cultural legacy. To get a balance between the different opinions, I’ve recorded a song that blends Twi, Ghana’s most common language, into its rhythm. Perhaps in the future, I’ll explore Fante, Ewe and the many languages spoken in Ghana.
